Here's a little bit more about me and how I developed into my role as a Funeral Celebrant.
I was born and grew up in Penistone in South Yorkshire but currently live in Goole DN14.Having worked for 30 years in the NHS I’ve acquired a multitude of transferable knowledge and skills that I believe are a great asset to my work as an Independent Funeral Celebrant. Initially I trained as a Mental Health Nurse before moving in to a number of Senior Management roles in Hospitals, Community Settings and Yorkshire Ambulance Service.
I have experienced grief in my own life from the loss of both of my Parents when I was young, and during my career I have nursed many patients as they have passed away. So I can empathise with the range of emotions that you will be feeling.
I had an interest in training to become a Funeral Celebrant for a number of years but always talked myself out of it wondering if I was ‘too old’ before realising that actually my own life skills and varied experiences would provide me with great foundations in the role of a Funeral Celebrant. So now, here I am!
When I am not immersed in all things ‘Celebranty’, I love gardening, walking, mooching around garden centres (especially if they have a coffee shop with cake), and I am never without chocolate or sweets!
I live with my Husband and a totally bonkers Boxer dog. Over the past 13 years I’ve been a Mum to 4 beautiful Boxer dogs, although sadly three of them are now at Rainbow Bridge, so again I can totally empathise with the devastation felt by those who have lost a furry family member.
My celebrant standards
Training and development
I completed my celebrant training with the Academy of Modern Celebrancy (who are an Internationally recognised Celebrant training organisation) and proudly achieved 100% on every one of my assignments and assessments.
As a Registered Nurse I was required to maintain my competency by Continuous Professional Development and as an Independent Funeral Celebrant I take my role equally as seriously. So by way of assurance of my commitment, I am a member of the Association of Independent Celebrants, which means I'm fully insured and I continue to develop my knowledge and skills within the Funeral Profession.
I also follow the Celebrant Accord (which outlines a framework of defined standards and skills that a Celebrant can be measured against).
